Meet the Team Behind This Evidence Review

Four physicians staff the Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center at Chongqing West District Hospital. Dr. Ke He is the responsible physician for this evidence review; the Center Director guarantees the standards the practice is held to, and the surgical and dermatologic members of the team carry the two questions a tightening decision raises — whether the skin is the right target at all, and what to do when the skin reacts.

Deputy Director & Head of Skin & Laser Aesthetics · Attending Physician, Licensed Aesthetic Attending · Lead Physician of This Site

Energy-device assessment · plasma and laser skin resurfacing · pigment risk in skin that tans readily

Dr. Ke He is Deputy Director of the Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center at Chongqing West District Hospital and head of its skin and laser aesthetic service — and she is the lead physician of this site. A core specialist formerly at the Plastic and Aesthetic Surgery Department of Xinqiao Hospital, affiliated with Army Medical University, she has worked on the clinical front line in skin laser and injectable aesthetics for more than 20 years, serving over ten thousand patients.

Her work is device-based, and the assessment that precedes it is the part that decides the outcome. She examines the skin before anything is proposed: how it has behaved after sun exposure and after any previous injury, whether the problem in front of her is texture, laxity or pigment, and whether the skin is the right target at all. Where the finding is tissue that has descended, she says so and refers rather than treating, because a surface device cannot reposition what a patient can see in the mirror. Where the skin is the right target, she states the number of sessions, the interval, the days of healing and the point at which the result will be judged, and she treats a small test area first when the pigment risk makes that the honest way to begin.

Clinical focus

  • Skin examination and pigment-risk assessment before any resurfacing plan
  • Device-based resurfacing, including plasma and fractional technologies
  • Judgement of when laxity lies beyond what a surface treatment can reach
  • Recognition and management of pigment change after resurfacing
  • Honest reporting of what the evidence supports and where it is thin

Academic roles & achievements

  • Member, Laser Medicine Group, Chinese Medical Association Plastic Surgery Branch
  • Member, Facial Rejuvenation Group, Chinese Medical Association Plastic Surgery Branch
  • Member, Chongqing Plastic Surgery Quality Control Center
  • Published 5 papers, holds 5 national patents, and introduced 2 new clinical techniques

Firmness is not position

A skin that has been treated can feel firmer and look smoother without sitting any higher on the face. Keeping those two outcomes separate is what stops a modest surface result from being sold as a lift, and it is the first thing she asks a patient to be clear about before treatment.

Shaoliang Wang

Shaoliang Wang (王韶亮)

Director, Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center · Vice Chief Physician, Associate Professor, Doctor of Medicine

Centre leadership · surgical standards

Dr. Shaoliang Wang is Director of the Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center at Chongqing West District Hospital. Within the team he provides the surgical perspective and the tertiary-hospital backstop — the assessment when an operation is the honest answer, and the hospital-level care for the rare complication that needs it.

For a patient considering a surface treatment, that system is what makes the assessment checkable: a documented skin examination before treatment, hospital support in the building if a wound or a pigment change needs more than a clinic visit, and a review schedule that continues after the treatment rather than ending with it.

Clinical focus

  • Center leadership and multidisciplinary case review
  • Surgical assessment when an operation is the honest answer to descent or excess skin
  • Hospital-based care for the rare complication that needs theatre-level management
Tongchun Mao

Tongchun Mao (毛彤春)

Deputy Director & Head of Aesthetic Surgery · Vice Chief Physician, Licensed Aesthetic Attending

Aesthetic surgery · facial and neck lifting

Dr. Tongchun Mao is an aesthetic surgeon within the Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center at Chongqing West District Hospital. Within the team his role is refinement and honest referral: he is the person who says so when an operation will do better than an injectable or a device.

Within this team his role is the judgement that no device can make: whether what a patient dislikes is skin quality or tissue that has descended, and whether removing skin would achieve something a surface treatment cannot. Where an operation is the honest answer he says so, and where it is not he says that too, which is the more useful half of the conversation.

Clinical focus

  • Aesthetic surgical assessment and refinement of contour and asymmetry
  • Honest referral when surgery outperforms a course of injections
  • Shared case planning within the four-physician team
Yongbo Jia

Yongbo Jia (贾勇波)

Deputy Director & Head of Dermatology · Vice Chief Physician, Licensed Aesthetic Attending

Dermatology · pigment and barrier

Dr. Yongbo Jia is a dermatologist within the Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center at Chongqing West District Hospital. Within the team his role is medical skin assessment — diagnosing and managing pigment and barrier conditions, and treating skin that a device or an injection has irritated.

In a treatment whose central risk is pigment change, his is the assessment that decides whether resurfacing should happen at all: whether the skin marks after injury, whether there is an active pigment condition that resurfacing would worsen, and what to do when a treated area heals darker or lighter than it was. That is a separate assessment from the tightening question, and it is treated separately for that reason.

Clinical focus

  • Medical skin assessment behind injectable treatment plans
  • Diagnosis and management of pigment and barrier conditions
  • Dermatologic care of skin after irritation or a delayed reaction
